Marc Albert

Marc Albert, 59 year old male park ranger at Hobbies Mountain Ranch. While working this past summer season, which was both warmer and rainier than usual, Mr. Albert helped treat many insect bites and their subsequent secondary infections from mosquitoes and kissing bugs. While he too was bit, his bites worsened once the season had ended on August 20th. Marc had stumbled into a poison oak patch which he treated with a topical lotion however, some of large red welts did not clear up. After visiting a dermatologist noted that along with the large welts, he was also running a low grade fever and recommended a trip to the local clinic. While at the clinic, Mr. Albert fainted and awoke with a severe fever and hallucinations. His condition continued to worsen until he slipped into a coma on Sep. 1st. Mr. Alberts’ blood sample indicated the presence of an unknown agent and IV antiviral agents along with steroids and fluids were unsuccessful. He succumbed to the infection on 9/03/2014.

It is believed that Marc came into contact with various insects in the acari and culicidae classifications. However, it is our belief that an insect in the hemiptera family is responsible for the infection that took Mr. Albert's life.
